| The U.S. Corporation of the Arctic
Institute of North America is located at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks. A Grant-in-Aid program is administered by the U.S.

| Grant-in-Aid
Program: The U.S. Corporation administers the Grant-in-Aid
Program. Nine years ago, the Program began supporting projects in
the North American arctic and subarctic. In total we have funded
78 of 134 proposals (58%), amounting to a total distribution of about
$51,000 from both the Calgary and Fairbanks offices. The Program
has maintained a bi-national flavor among its recipients with 42 awards
to Canadian and 34 to U.S. citizens. Thus far all funds still
represent contributions by AINA members. Unlike many other organizations,
these contributions are used only to support investigators; none is used
for administrative costs. As a result of a recent board meeting,
plans are underway to expand program funds through solicitations from
